Cumberland, GA
sky design has a long-standing relationship with the Cumberland Community Improvement District that has spanned over 16 years and has resulted in the installation of:
8 monuments, 3 Interstate Off-ramp murals, 54 vehicular wayfinding signs, 19 pedestrian kiosks, 57 trailblazer signs, and counting.
“sky developed the program based on an abstracted version of the CID’s new logo”
The Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID), Georgia’s first CID, is one of the nation’s premier models of public-private collaboration.
In collaboration with CID, sky design continues to work on a comprehensive signage & wayfinding program that has spanned multiple years and multiple phases for the Cumberland Community Improvement District.
The goals of the program are to define the District via strategic signage placement with a focus on visibility & impact - and provide Community awareness through creative abstractions & implementations of CID brand assets.
“I feel we were a dynamic team during the design process and implementation.”
Phase II included additional “Gateway Sculpture” locations along with: vehicular directional signs to facilitate targeted movement throughout the Community to key destinations; greenway trail identification & wayfinding to highlight and encourage use of beautified walking paths; and additional logo & branding work.
Phase III sought to channel all the unique offerings of the Cumberland area into a singular visual that culminated in multiple off-ramp murals. The National Park, hiking and biking trails, Braves Stadium and Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre are represented through colorful iconography at three major access points to the Cumberland area, providing a prominent welcoming moment to guests and residents.
Phase I scope included primary and secondary gateway signage which act as art installations indicating the district boundaries. The prominence of the CCID branding was paramount in orienting visitors when entering & exiting the Community.
sky design, alongside collaboration with landscape architects/planners JJG and CID leadership developed the gateway and signage masterplan.
